Forest Manager/ Senior Forest Manager

Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for you to be a key member of our forestry team at Euroforest Silviculture, working from our Devon Office in the role of Forest Manager or Senior Forest Manager, dependant on experience.

 

The Position

The successful candidate will take an active lead on the management of a wide range of client properties. To succeed in the role, competency is required across multiple disciplines ranging from silvicultural, planning, organisational and communication. The role can be divided into the following primary functions, but is not limited to:

 

-         Responsibility for the identification, assessment, quantification, and implementation of the full range of forest management operations

-         Overseeing the successful delivery of operational programmes to meet client objectives, compliant with health and safety, regulatory and environmental legislation

-         Liaising directly with clients, landowners, statutory bodies and other stakeholders

-         Coordinating of the full range of establishment and maintenance of young conifer, mixed and broadleaved crops on restock or new planting sites, across upland and lowland settings

-         Preparing budgets, annual reports, and financial forecasts

-         Compiling UKWAS management plans & long-term production forecasts

-         Programming of thinning and felling and undertake timber assessment, marking and mensuration where appropriate

-         Monitoring and measuring compliance in the execution of timber sale contracts

-         Managing tenders for occasional contracts and execute successful opportunities

-         Promoting the business and acquiring new business opportunities within the region

-         Assisting in the ongoing and gradual development of the fee structure to increase profitability and introduce a cost-plus model where appropriate

 

Training and support will be provided to introduce the successful applicant to company systems and procedures. Further training is provided to allow the candidate to develop their role and specialisms within the business over time.

 

Qualification &Experience

-         Proven experience in forest management, where directly involved in the day-to-day management of forest properties, particularly in a lowland context

-         Proven experience in dealing directly with woodland owners, statutory bodies or stakeholders

-         Relevant academic qualification (Forestry or other land- or science-based discipline)

-         Professional membership of the Institute of Chartered Foresters or another relevant professional body is desirable.

-         Knowledge of the regulatory systems underpinned by the Forestry Act (1967) and Wildlife and Countryside Act (1981) (both as amended)

-         A strong degree of commercial acumen, and balanced understanding of lowland silviculture, and the full range of operations from new planting, restocking through to harvesting

-         Knowledge of the requirements of UKFS and UKWAS

-         Knowledge of lowland and mixed conifer / broadleaved silviculture and the management of PAWS & ASNW woodlands would be desirable

-         A working understanding of mixed sporting estates would be advantageous

-         An understanding of the grants and regulatory systems in England would be an advantage

-         Good interpersonal and communication skills

-         Proficiency with IT systems, with experience of Office 365 suite and GIS mapping

-         Clean, Full UK Drivers Licence
