Euroforest Announce a New Social and Environmental Project
Euroforest are excited to announce a new social and environmental project that we will be undertaking in conjunction with Will Hamilton of the Lincolnshire Honey Company. The Lincolnshire Wolds Honey Company are a part of a cooperative of beekeepers who invest significant amounts of their time promoting sustainable beekeeping and endorsing sustainable land use. They visit community groups and schools to enhance people’s understanding of the need for honeybees and pollinators.
Euroforest have purchased two national beehives to be constructed by Ben Manterfield, General Manager Southeast & East England. Once complete, two colonies of native (British Black) honeybees, also provided by Euroforest will be installed into their new homes. Their ongoing care will be undertaken by the Lincolnshire Honey Company who operate in the Lincolnshire Wolds AONB.
We hope because of this three-way collaboration (Euroforest, The Lincolnshire Honey Company & the bees) you will be able to taste the bee’s honey at shows and other events, the honey being a direct product from the trees and plants local to the hives.
As a company we’re passionate about the countryside, wildlife and the sustainable management of both. Honeybees, bees and other pollinators are fundamentally important in their role pollinating flowers, crops, and trees! They face similar plights to our trees stocks with invasive species being a significant issue for them. Accordingly, we also intend to use our established beekeeping site to monitor and raise awareness of Asian hornets which are a threat to our native pollinators, particularly honeybees.
Let’s hope that Ben gets the hives constructed quickly (and correctly) so that we can get the bees into their new home as quickly as possible.
