Harvesting Undertaken on Peatland Restoration Site in Southwest Scotland
Euroforest Ltd are currently undertaking work on a Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS) peatland restoration site, alongside Blacklock Harvesting. Euroforest’s Area Manager for Southwest Scotland, Stewart Marshall, and Contract Supervisor for Dumfries & Galloway, Ben Sinden met last week with FLS Forester, Owen Jones, and Blacklock Manager, Keith Creighton to undertake a site inspection as operations draw to a close.
Due to the nature of the peatland restoration site, FLS required several key outcomes to be adhered to including low cut and inverted stumps where possible in order to puncture “peat-pipes”; areas of 20m left clear between brash mats; and maximising timber recovery. All outcomes were achieved to a high standard due to careful planning, site supervision, and effective communication between Euroforest Ltd, Blacklock Harvesting, and Forestry and Land Scotland.
On the work undertaken, Stewart Marshall said “The whole of the Blacklock Harvesting team deserve special credit for their exceptional work on a challenging site which is so wet it literally rises and falls with the tide. Thank you for all your hard work.”
