Arboriculture Manager, Will Rolph and his night team recently carried out tree safety works during the early hours to remove dangerous trees along an old railway embankment which is now an A road. The steep embankment required the cutting of young sycamore, ash, and birch regen, which were unsafe due to the unstable banking causing rooting instabilities.
Following geotechnical surveys, the first step in securing this urban embankment was to clear the vegetation in order to protect residential properties above, and road users below. This work involved a 58-hour road closure where lower vegetation clearance was undertaken using tree shears, followed by the use of specialist long reach equipment including the merlo and Sennebogenfor higher areas.
