Douglas King, Area Manager for Southwest England, has been busy working within a woodland in Devon severely affected by windblow damage from the winter of 2021. Over half of the 18-hectare Spruce woodland was impacted and required harvesting. In preparation of the harvesting, a loading bay was created and Doug had to plan operations around a water pipe located within the site. Due to the recent wet weather and the location of the water pipe, careful consideration was requiredin relation to extraction routes and brash mat positioning to allow the timber to be forwarded to roadside ready for uplift.
Harvesting was undertaken by a husband and wife team, Darren and Wendy, from Mid Somerset Forestry, who have worked for Euroforest for over 18 years. The team utilised a modern Logset 12H harvester which is well suited to high production harvesting in the Southwest.
