Martin joined Euroforest in 2004 as an Area Manager, based in the Talgarth office. He was born in Zimbabwe and went to the University of Stellenbosch where he achieved a BSc in Forestry Engineering. Following the completion of his studies, Martin worked for a subsidiary of Anglo American called Border Timber Ltd where he remained for twenty years. When the situation in Zimbabwe deteriorated, Martin and his wife came to the UK for a fresh start, where he was drawn to working for Euroforest and the challenges that come with harvesting in the UK.
At Border Timber Ltd, Martin progressed from a Trainee to the Regional Manager of Chimanimani where he planned and created a 5000ha plantation called Sawerombi from scratch. He undertook a multitude of forestry activities during his time there from filling pots in the nursery, tapping naval store resin from Pinus Elliottii, to felling large eucalyptus trees with two-man pit saws, and fighting forest fires.
Martin is now responsible for purchasing and managing the harvesting operations in the Cotswolds region. He is heavily involved in managing often challenging Ash Dieback works for private estates and adjacent to council roads which require a high level of planning and management. Martin takes great pleasure in dealing with landowners, customers and machine operators who has built good working relationships with while working at Euroforest.
Out with forestry, Martin enjoys playing golf, fishing, charcuterie, and home brewing. If you wish to discuss any aspects of timber harvesting within his area, please contact Martin on the details above.
